Course Overview
This nationally recognised course provides the required training to obtain Main Roads WA accreditation in Basic Worksite Traffic Management (BWTM) and Traffic Control (TC). It is suitable for individuals working on or near roads who are required to implement traffic guidance schemes and control traffic using a stop/slow bat.
Participants will learn how to safely set up and monitor traffic management signs and devices, as well as direct traffic safely around worksites in accordance with Main Roads WA and Australian Standard requirements.
Must hold a valid full driving licence.

Entry requirements
A valid Traffic Management Card (within 3 months of expiry)
Statements of Attainment or USI transcript showing competency in RIIWHS302E, RIIWHS205E, RIICOM201E (or equivalent)
Active traffic management experience
Worksite documentation, such as a daily diary or risk assessment and a completed SWMS
A valid White Card (Construction Induction Training Card)
A current or previously valid driver’s license (excluding learner permits or R-N Mopeds)

Training is delivered by experienced traffic management professionals and combines theory with hands-on practical assessment.
(Sunscreen and plastic ponchos are provided for outdoor practical assessment as needed).

A partial refund (50%) may be issued if you provide 3 to 4 working days’ notice. No refunds can be issued for cancellations made with less than 3 working days’ notice, or for non-attendance.

You will also receive Main Roads WA accreditation and a printed accreditation card.
A USI (Unique Student Identifier) is a government-issued reference number required for anyone undertaking nationally recognised training in Australia. It allows you to access your training records and transcripts online and ensures your accredited training is recorded in the national system.
If you’re completing any accredited course (such as RSA, White Card, or Traffic Management), you must provide a valid USI before your certificate can be issued.
You can create one for free at www.usi.gov.au. If you’re not sure how, we’re happy to help during the enrolment process.
The course runs for three full days and includes both classroom-based theory and practical outdoor assessment at a live or simulated worksite.
The training takes place at our Northbridge Training Centre and a nearby approved off-site work zone (generally in Malaga however locations may vary) . Free transport between our Northbridge training room and the worksite locations are provided.

If you are deemed competent and all enrolment and ID checks are complete, you will receive your Main Roads WA accreditation card day 3 of the course, certificates will emailed within 5 working days.
Yes. You must hold a valid White Card (or former Blue Card) before attending this course.
Yes. You must have a valid non learner Australian or international driver’s licence to enrol, as it is a Main Roads WA requirement for accreditation.
Yes. You will complete written theory, group-based activities, and a practical assessment conducted on a live worksite.
You must be able to speak and understand English to participate in training and complete assessments. If you’re unsure, we recommend booking a verbal English-speaking assessment with one of our trainers.

Non-Attendance – No refund or transfer for failure to attend without notice

This course provides participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to safely manage and control traffic at worksites. This comprehensive training is essential for individuals involved in setting up, monitoring, and managing traffic on public roads and construction sites.
White Card Online Module: Start with an online White Card module, which must be completed prior to the in-person traffic management training.

Course Duration Change from February 2026 (3 Days to 3.5 Days)
To prepare for the upcoming Main Roads WA requirement, we will be implementing the updated Portable Traffic Control Device (PTCD) training from 23 February 2026. Students enrolling from this date will complete an extended 3.5-day course, which includes two additional nationally recognised units (RIIWHS206 and RIIWHS303). This ensures all participants meet the new competency requirements ahead of the mandatory change starting 1 March 2026.
