This qualification may lead to the following career opportunities. Please note: completion of training does not guarantee employment.
Already have skills and experience? You may be eligible for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or Credit Transfer to reduce your study time.
Learn about RPLIt runs over 3.5 days — classroom theory at our Northbridge Training Centre followed by practical outdoor assessment at an approved worksite (generally in Malaga). You'll cover stop/slow bat operation, setting up portable traffic control devices, and implementing traffic management schemes.
You'll get two things: a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for the units covered, and a Main Roads WA Certificate of Accreditation with a wallet card. The Main Roads accreditation is what lets you work on WA roads and worksites.
You'll need a valid driver's licence and a White Card, plus steel-cap boots for the practical days (Days 3–4) and weather-appropriate clothing. Basic English is required. If you don't have your White Card yet, ask us about our combined pathway that includes it.
CTF (Construction Training Fund) subsidies may apply for eligible WA construction workers and can reduce your course fee. Contact us before enrolling and we'll help you check your eligibility, or you can read more at ctf.wa.gov.au/funding. We also offer payment plans if you'd like to spread the cost.
Our courses are delivered on a non-CRICOS basis, which means they're intended as short courses rather than a main program of study. If you're on a student visa, you're welcome to enrol as long as your visa conditions allow you to undertake an additional short course. We'd recommend confirming this with the Department of Home Affairs before you enrol.
If you already hold traffic management accreditation — including from interstate — you may not need the full course. Take a look at our Re-accreditation and Interstate Bridging courses, or contact us and we'll help you work out the right pathway.
A valid photo ID, your driver's licence and White Card, steel-cap boots for the practical days, and weather-appropriate clothing. We provide sunscreen and ponchos. The practical days are outdoors, so dress for the conditions.
You'll need a current driver's licence to enrol, and traffic control is live worksite work, so students need to be at least 16. Many employers require workers to be 18 or over.
Our courses do need a working level of English, since you'll need to understand safety instructions and follow traffic management procedures and complete the assessment. To make sure the course is the right fit and that you'll be well supported, we offer a quick language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) check over the phone before you start. If the check shows you'd benefit from extra support, we'll go through the options with you so you can complete the course with confidence.
Yes. A USI (Unique Student Identifier) is a free reference number that every student undertaking nationally recognised training in Australia must have. It's a lifetime record of your training, so all your qualifications and Statements of Attainment are stored in one place. You'll need one before we can issue your certificate — you can create your own for free at usi.gov.au.
Yes. You'll receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for the units covered, plus a Main Roads WA Certificate of Accreditation and wallet card. Together these are recognised by employers and regulators for traffic work in WA.
Once you've completed all the theory and practical assessment requirements and we've verified your USI, we'll issue your Statement of Attainment (by email) and arrange your Main Roads WA Certificate of Accreditation and wallet card. Keep an eye on your inbox, including your junk folder.
Your nationally recognised Statement of Attainment doesn't expire, but your Main Roads WA Certificate of Accreditation is valid for 3 years. You'll need to complete re-accreditation before it expires to keep working on WA roads — we run a Re-accreditation course for exactly this.
We collect and store your personal information only for the purposes of delivering your training, issuing your certificate, and meeting our legal obligations as a Registered Training Organisation. We're required to report certain information to government bodies — including your USI and training results — and we handle your information in line with our Privacy Policy. You can read the full policy on our website, and you're welcome to contact us with any questions about your information.
We take all concerns seriously and aim to resolve them fairly. If you're unhappy with any part of your experience, or you'd like to appeal an assessment decision, you can let us know and we'll follow our Complaints and Appeals process. The full process — including how to submit and what to expect — is set out in our Complaints and Appeals Policy on our website. You won't be disadvantaged for raising a concern.
Your course fee covers up to 3 assessment attempts at no extra charge. If you haven't achieved a satisfactory result after 3 attempts, you're welcome to re-enrol in the course to try again — the standard course fee applies to the new enrolment.
