Course Duration Change from February 2026 (3 Days to 3.5 Days)

To prepare for the upcoming Main Roads WA requirement, we will be implementing the updated Portable Traffic Control Device (PTCD) training from 23 February 2026. Students enrolling from this date will complete an extended 3.5-day course, which includes two additional nationally recognised units (RIIWHS206 and RIIWHS303). This ensures all participants meet the new competency requirements ahead of the mandatory change starting 1 March 2026.

Course details

This Main Roads WA accredited three-day course provides participants with the essential theory and practical skills needed for Basic Worksite Traffic Management and Traffic Control in Western Australia. It aligns with Main Roads WA standards and the Austroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Management.  

This course provides participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to safely manage and control traffic at worksites. This comprehensive training is essential for individuals involved in setting up, monitoring, and managing traffic on public roads and construction sites.

Cost: $590 (increasing to $690 after 23rd of February) 

Duration and delivery

3 days – face to face (3.5 days from 23rd of February onwards) 

Assessment

Participants will be assessed through written tests, practical demonstrations, and on-the-job assessments. Competency in both theoretical knowledge and practical skills is required for successful completion. The practical component on Day 3 is conducted on a live road, providing participants with real-world experience in managing and controlling traffic under actual road conditions.

Our training rooms are conveniently located on Newcastle Street, near Slyth Way, making us easily accessible by various modes of transport.

  • By Bus: The 980 bus stops right outside our door at Newcastle St Before William St (Stop ID: 28178).

  • By Train: We are just a 10-minute walk from Perth Train Station (we are situated behind the TAFE building on Aberdeen street).

Certification

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive: 

  • A Main Roads WA Certification for BWTM & TC and a photo ID card
  • A nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for the following units of competency:
    • RIIWHS302E: Implement Traffic Management Plan
    • RIIWHS205E: Control Traffic with Stop-Slow Bat
    • RIICOM201E: Communicate in the Workplace
    • RIIWHS206 Control traffic with portable traffic control devices and temporary traffic signs (for courses after 23rd of February 2026 only) 
    • RIIWHS303 Position, set up and program portable traffic control devices (for courses after 23rd of February 2026 only)
