Who is this course for?

This course is ideal for:

  • Beginners entering the hospitality industry
  • Job seekers wanting both certification and practical experience
  • Students looking to build confidence and employable skills for cafés, bars, and restaurants

What is included in the Hospitality Starter Pack?

This course bundle includes:

  • RSA (Responsible Service of Alcohol) – a nationally accredited unit
  • Barista Essentials – a hands-on coffee-making short course
  • Practical Service Skills – a short course covering key front-of-house and customer service techniques (e.g. carrying plates, trays, and setting tables)

What is a USI and why do I need one?

A USI (Unique Student Identifier) is a government-issued reference number required for anyone undertaking nationally recognised training in Australia. It allows you to access your training records and transcripts online and ensures your accredited training is recorded in the national system.

  • If you’re completing any accredited course (such as RSA, White Card, or Traffic Management), you must provide a valid USI before your certificate can be issued.
  • You can create one for free at usi.gov.au. If you’re not sure how, we’re happy to help during the enrolment process.

How is the course delivered?

  • RSA: Delivered face-to-face at our Northbridge Training Centre
  • Barista Essentials: Includes a self-paced online module (approx. 1 hour) followed by a 5-hour practical session
  • Service Skills: Delivered face-to-face in a practical setting

How long does the training take?

Approximately 1 day of in-person training, with some pre-reading completed online prior to attending. Barista and Service Skills are delivered on the same day. RSA is typically completed on a separate day and scheduled to suit your availability.

Is this course accredited?

  • The RSA unit (SITHFAB021 – Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol) is accredited and nationally recognised.
  • The Barista and Service Skills courses are non-accredited but provide valuable workplace-relevant training. You will receive Certificates of Completion for these.

What certificate will I receive?

Upon successful completion, you will receive:

  • Statement of Attainment for RSA
  • Certificate of Completion for Barista Essentials
  • Certificate of Completion for Practical Service Skills

What do I need to bring?

  • Valid photo ID
  • Closed-in shoes
  • Comfortable clothing suitable for hands-on activities in a training environment

Is there an age requirement?

Yes. You must be at least 14 years old to enrol.

Do I need any hospitality experience?

No prior experience is required. This course is designed for complete beginners.

Do I need to complete anything before the course?

Yes. Before attending your in-person Barista training, you must complete a short eLearning module. This helps prepare you with basic coffee and hygiene knowledge so the practical training can focus on hands-on skills.

Do I need to speak English fluently?

You must be able to speak and understand English to follow instructions and participate in assessments.
If you’re unsure, we can arrange a brief phone call with one of our trainers.
